Chrissy
Chrissy is a former professional ballerina and ballet, pointe and Pilates instructor in the Capital District. She became certified under Power Pilates for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Pilates Mat classes in 2005. In 2017, she completed the Romana’s Pilates comprehensive Certification program, training with Sari Meja Santo and Cynthia Shipley at True Pilates NYC while doing her apprenticeship hours in Saratoga Springs. Chrissy teaches ballet, pointe and Pilates mat classes at Union College, guest teaches at the Albany Berkshire Ballet and Myers Ballet School and is excited to be joining The Pilates Principle team as a Pilates Instructor.
Chrissy began her dance training with Darlene Myers at the Myers Ballet School and the Northeast Ballet Company in Schenectady, NY. Supported by dance and academic scholarships, she earned a BA in Dance from Mercyhurst University while also performing lead roles with The Lake Erie Ballet. Chrissy has danced professionally as principal dancer with the Albany Berkshire Ballet for 20 years, as well as with the Northeast Ballet Company and as guest dancer with the Ajkun Ballet Theatre. Soon after joining the Albany Berkshire Ballet in 1998, Chrissy discovered her talent and joy in teaching and has become a well-known ballet and pointe instructor at the School of the Albany Berkshire Ballet, Myers Dance Studio and the Union College Dance Department.
Looking to gain strength and stamina for a particularly challenging role, Chrissy found Pilates mat classes at a local Yoga studio and fell in love with how her dancing improved - turning, balance control, more powerful and higher jumps and so much more. Further along in her career, she relied on the Pilates Method to recover from various injuries while unable to dance. Chrissy loves that Pilates can be for everyone (dancer, soccer player, gardener!) and enjoys working with people of all ages, fitness levels and experience.
