The Pilates Principle was started in 2003 by Nuhar Jaleel, a licensed physical therapist, and a Pilates and
GYROTONIC® exercise instructor. For many years, we have been delivering unparalleled instruction in the Pilates
and GYROTONIC® exercise methods. Pilates is a term that is used very loosely these days, and many instructors
out there are not qualified to properly progress clients through the classical exercises at a safe, educated
pace. Rest assured that our staff is not only highly educated in anatomy and biomechanics, but we know how to
modify the classical Pilates exercises for many conditions, such as lumbar or cervical disc issues, spinal
stenosis, osteopenia / osteoporosis, pre-natal / post-partum, and neurological involvement. Any body can do
Pilates and GYROTONIC® exercise with the proper instruction. Whether your goal is rehabilitative/therapeutic,
sport specific, or general fitness, we can deliver the appropriate exercise for you.
PILATES, GYROTONIC® EXERCISE, OR BOTH?
The Pilates system’s strengths include providing an initial abdominal (core) awareness, and the nature of the equipment and the choreography provide clear postural awareness. Pilates also delivers ample opportunity for weight-bearing and closed-chain exercise, especially on the Reformer and the Wunda Chair. Most of the movements are more linear in nature.
The GYROTONIC® system is helpful in addressing muscle imbalances for those who do unilateral sports (golf, tennis, hockey, etc.). It increases range of motion in multiple joints, and most of the moves feel like a tangible stretch due to the nature of the equipment. It has a strong focus on spiraling or rotational
movements of the trunk and extremities.
Some people really like the feeling of the spring resistance in Pilates. Others prefer the aquatic-like
resistance of GYROTONIC® exercise. Both provide strength training without impact or strain on the joints. Both methods have apparatus-based exercises, and mat-based exercises that don’t utilize any equipment; the mat portion of GYROTONIC® exercise is called GYROKINESIS®.
In 2000, the Federal Court in Manhattan declared the word “Pilates” to mean an exercise method, not a trademarked brand name. This means that gyms, instructors, certification companies, and equipment
manufacturers are free to use the word Pilates without adhering to any specific standard. So, prospective clients must do their research to make sure they are seeing an experienced instructor; you cannot rely on the name “Pilates” alone. In contrast, the term “GYROTONIC®” is trademarked by its creator Juliu Horvath. Therefore, there is no confusion as to what a GYROTONIC® instructor’s training has entailed.
If you want to get started with private instruction, Nuhar sees every new client for his or her first lesson. Nuhar’s professional experience has taught her to be efficient in choosing which exercise system will educate the client most effectively and attain the clients’ stated goals. Both Pilates and GYROTONIC® exercise will leave you feeling looser, taller, and less tense in the neck and low back. Many people
experience very quick relief of low back pain and
increased mobility in the spine.

What is your cancellation policy?
There is no cancellation policy for any of our group classes that don’t require the use of apparatus (Yoga, Pilates Mat Classes, GYROKINESIS®, etc.), as they are drop-in by nature.
For any classes limited in capacity due to the number of apparatus, or for any appointments
(private/semi-private lessons), there is a 24-hour cancellation policy. There is some leniency on the policy due to certain circumstances, but generally speaking we do uphold the policy, largely so our instructors can be paid for their time.
Group Classes: Please see “Schedule a Lesson or Class” for Group class times and rates. Group Classes range from $8 to $35 each, depending on the type of class (apparatus or mat), and depending on the capacity.
* Private lessons range from $60 to $80, depending on the experience level and qualifications of the instructor.
* Semi-Private lessons (2 or 3 ppl) range from $45 to $50.
